Hall & Hall Engineers (HHE) was engaged by the Linn Mar Community School District to create a new intermediate school campus in Marion, Iowa. HHE prepared a full-build campus masterplan that incorporated all of the School District’s long-term goals of establishing two school buildings located on this campus with associated parking and play yards. A traffic study and detailed review of the vehicular and pedestrian circulation patterns was evaluated to ensure that when the second school opens that the traffic patterns remain safe and functional.
HHE provided the complete land survey and civil engineering design which included site layout, grading, drainage, utility services (water, sanitary sewer, natural gas, power) and earth work quantity calculations. Land survey services included topographic and boundary survey, construction staking, preliminary and final platting. Working with site constraints of limited sanitary sewer availability and high ground water conditions, HHE completed the needed legwork to rectify these issues. This included the completion of a sanitary sewer study to determine an intermediate solution, while factoring in when the second building opens. In addition, an early bid package was issued to install dewatering treatments to improve soil conditions and reduce construction costs for the foundation system of the school building.
