Hall and Hall Engineers (HHE) were contracted by the Linn-Mar Community School District to assist with the site design for the new Hazel Point School. A key aspect of the design involved planning the circulation for parent and bus drop-off areas. This task was made more challenging due to the school's proximity to the existing Echo Hill Elementary School, which already had an established traffic pattern. HHE led the master planning process to evaluate these circulation patterns and conducted a traffic study to ensure safe and organized movement both on campus and on the surrounding street network after both schools were in operation.
Project Features:
Traffic and circulation analysis indicates safe pedestrian passage from parking lots, the drop-off lane, and between both schools. Additionally, the bus drop-off areas provide direct access to the school buildings.
A secondary emergency access route has been designed along an off-site trail that leads to the back of the school campus, as the school is situated on a dead-end street.
Additionally, a new roundabout was completed at a nearby intersection to accommodate the increased traffic associated with the new school.
