In the past decade, the City of Fairfax has grown to the north, separating from the older city core by Prairie Creek. To link the two areas, Hall & Hall Engineers designed a new pedestrian trail and bridge spanning Prairie Creek, giving pedestrians and cyclists a safe connection between the new and old areas of the city.
The trail and bridge totaled a quarter-mile of eleven-foot wide by six-inch thick concrete trail and a 230’ long, fourteen-foot wide pre-engineered steel truss bridge. It is the first of a multi-phase project connecting the northern and southern portions of Fairfax. The project utilized federal funding through the Transportation Enhancement portion of the Surface Transportation Program.
HHE guided the city through each project phase, including concept planning, identifying funding sources, property acquisition, permitting, design, and construction engineering.
