This project involved realignment of the Hutton Drive intersection with Highway 150 in Urbana, Iowa. Design elements included 900 feet of roadway, property acquisitions, as well as stormwater analysis and design. Design efforts began with a set of concept drawings focusing primarily on the horizontal geometry of the intersection with consideration given to intersection functionality and impacts to surrounding properties while maintaining required separation from the nearby I-380 interchange. This project utilized SWAP funding, requiring Iowa DOT review, environmental review, and permitting.
Challenging elements of the project included the design and maintenance of stormwater drainage throughout the site, commercial entrance design, and staging for continuous access of large vehicle traffic. Ongoing development adjacent to the site required constant communication with developers to ensure a coordinated design.
