Project Description:

3rd Avenue, Hiawatha, IA

3rd Avenue was an aging residential street first constructed over 50 years ago. This street was an asphalt surface with PCC curb and gutter. 3rd Avenue contained miscellaneous patches from replaced sanitary sewer services over the years resulting in failures throughout the majority of this two block street section. Hall and Hall Engineers was engaged to design and plan coordination of re-construction efforts.

To accomplish the re-construction, LOST funding was utilized through the City of Hiawatha for a majority of the construction costs. Properties with orangeburg sewer services were identified and those services were removed. Throughout the design process and construction, coordination and open communications were maintained with property owners. With attention to the existing site conditions, large street trees were able to be protected and maintained with the infrastructure improvements.
